NZ Hack & Pony Council

The NZ Hack and Pony Council reformed after a five year recess, with the intention of holding an annual Championship Show in the Northern/Waikato area. The show is known as the North Island Premier Showing Championships, and provides a venue for elite show horses and ponies to compete in the upper North Island.

This year the event will be run on 6-7 February 2010.
 
Four successful shows have now been held, with the fifth scheduled for February 2010.
 
Previously the major shows with the exception of the Royal Easter Show were all held in the lower North Island.
 
Showing is a sport which does not always receive the publicity and following accorded to eventing or show jumping, and our aim is to showcase our sport in a central area and generate some interest and awareness of another horse orientated activity.
 
The show is scheduled for the weekend of 6/7 February 2010 at Claudelands Events Centre. Classes will commence at 8.30am on Saturday and 8.30am on the Sunday. Entry is unrestricted, but this show is a qualifier for Horse of the Year Show 2010 held in March at Hastings.
 
Lat year record entries have meant that the show will continue to grow. We are in the process of inviting our overseas judges, we have usually had 3 from Australia and two or three from New Zealand, to cope with the numbers in a packed programme. The introduction of the new teams' event generated a lot of interest and looks like becoming an important part of the programme going forwards. We are also instigating a member's competition to run over the duration of the show, and this year is the first performance competition run nationwide over the whole show season.
 
We envisage raising the level of prizemoney in the future, as we are competing with the economic situation and in order to continue our projected growth pattern it is vital that we attract the greatest number of competitors from across the country.
