NEW ZEALAND RIDING CLUBS (NZRC)
THE H.O.R.S.E. CLUB
H.O.R.S.E. stands for Hamilton Older Riders Social Equitation Club Incorporated.
The HORSE club was formed in 1984 especially for the forgotten riders (mums, dads, grandparents) who still ride, want to get back into it but lack the confidence, wish to meet people, further their interest at a non-competitive rate, or just generally love horses and want to share their time with others. Since the inception of this club many firm friendships have begun, both with people, also with the riders and their horses, and have gone on to be successful combinations. The club, being very social, does not always rely on meeting on horseback, therefore social gatherings are the highlights as riders will bring spouses, friends, boyfriends and girlfriends along and believe it EVERYONE has a great time!
We have at present a membership of around 50 or so people, spread from Cambridge to Te Awamutu to Taupiri and surrounding districts. We have access to some great riding and regularly go on treks. Many hilarious stories and great times have come out of our trips away. You don't have to be a great rider and sometimes a horse can be borrowed until, in time you have your own mount! We have, within the club, many talented people from all walks of life, with a great many skills which we can all benefit by, just in managing to get through everyday life and it's problems....SO....with something for everyone, call one of us and CHECK IT OUT!
aims and objectives
The aim and objective of the club is to share and develop the mutual love of horses. To continue an adult education programme in the art and pleasure of Horsemanship and for sharing these interest with others.
H.O.R.S.E. membership
Membership is strictly for those 18 and over, naturally for both sexes, in fact we try and encourage partners to ride and have many couples as riding members as this club caters for all levels of riders , we always encourage the non-riding partner to 'have a go'. Annual membership for just $40.00 per person entitles you to many organized outings, a monthly newsletter with all the dates of what's happening, instruction with good and renowned instructors, plus special privileges on our ribbon days and great farms to ride over.

NORTH ISLAND TEAMS EVENT
2ND & 3RD JANUARY 2010
NITE Results 2010
Eighteen teams were entered in the North Island Teams Event hosted by the HORSE Club during the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd January, 2010 held at the Waikato Equestrian Centre.
After months of meetings by the Organisers and preparation to put all the programme together, the day finally arrived. Luckily the weather was good and the teams started to arrive early to camp for the weekend.
Everything was in place for the start on the Saturday morning with the grounds looking fantastic, riders up early for the "Turn Out" phase, judges in place and it was all on.
The HORSE Club had entered a team consisting of Christine Pratt, Annette Bardsley, Louise Keesing, Debbie Stevens and Susan Brennan. Susan was competing in the jumping phases only.

Aptly named the "Wusses of Oz", the team rode to the music put together by Noeline Jeffries from the soundtrack of "The Wizard of Oz". When you can tap your feet to the music, then you know that it's a good beat and it suited the paces of the horses who worked together in perfect unison.
Three team members, Louise, Annette and Debbie, had never competed in this event before and they were all absolutely thrilled with their achievements.
Some very good intricate movements in some of the quadrille routines were evident and of course Franklin is a very hard team to beat with their perfectly performed routine by their "Red Hot to Trot" team.
Sunday was the day that the HORSE Club gained their 4th in the cross country, having to ride with only three in the team as Susan decided to withdraw her horse due to lameness which was very unfortunate. They also gained a 4th in the Showjumping with Louise gaining extra points at the "Joker" jump for the team. The end result was a third overall and of course the Team and their supporters were absolutely thrilled.
Many thanks to the Horse Club Organisers for a truly well organized event. No major accidents, perfect weather, great atmosphere - what more could you ask for.
Special thanks to all the Sponsors on the Day.

WAIKATO HUNT INC.

The Waikato Hunt was established in 1891 and currently has a membership of 250 ranging in age from 7 years to 89 years.
The Waikato Hunt is centred at Cambridge, and draws membership from throughout the Waikato region. Hounds are kennelled at the Fencourt Road Hunt property.
The hunting season is from the end of March top mid July of each year. The members hunt over private property at the discretion, support and sponsorship of individual land owners on a frequency of two to three times a week during the season. Our hunting activity takes place on farm properties throughout the Waikato Region from Raglan in the west to Mamkau in the east; Tauhei in the north to Otorohanga in the south.
The Waikato Hunt derives its annual income from subscriptions, donations, various fundraising activities such as raffles, a cattle stock scheme where by farmers graze free of charge stock on their farm for the Hunt, the annual Hunt ball fund raiser and horse treks.
The Waikato Hunt is an incorporated society which has a structure with rules and code of conduct with emphasis on etiquette, fun and enjoyment.
Hunting as a sport, reportedly was introduced by Alfred The Great (871) and has evolved over the centuries to become the great sport as we know it today with the fellowship, camaraderie, fun, pleasure and the thrill of the chase.
The first hunt established in New Zealand was The Pakuranga, 1872. Followed by The Canterbury, 1875 (reforming as Christchurch, 1880); The Rangitikei, 1881; The South Canterbury, 1882; The Waimate, 1882; The Brackenfield, 1884; The Birchwood, 1886; The Hawkes Bay, 1890; The Waikato, 1891; The Woodlands, 1891; and The Poverty Bay, 1892, as those being established prior to 1990.
Tradition, protocol and etiquette is an integral part of following hounds and is observed for not only the respect, prestige, fun and passion associated with hunting, but also, for the safety of members, their mounts and hound pack.
The majority of hunts have experienced a transformation in the type of country hunted over the years and Huntsmen have been forced to modify and train hound packs to adjust accordingly. In the early days the country was vast and more open with the occasional hedge or spar. Today properties in general terms are smaller with manicured hedges, lowered wires and spars. This transformation has happened due to changes in demography, subdivision pressure, more intensive farming and changes in the types of farming.
Some have the notion that hunting is a sport for the aristocracy. This is not the case in New Zealand as hunting is regarded as a family sport and encompasses all walks of life irrespective of race, creed, gender and profession.
Hunting is not a competitive sport and those of whom hunt do so for a wide range of individual reasons of which the common denominator is fun and pleasure.
