Eventing

Welcome to Eventing at the Waikato Equestrian Centre (WEC). Eventing is the equestrian equivalent of a triathalon, where the horse and rider is required to demonstrate precision and control in the dressage phase, courage and stamina in the cross country phase and agility and energy in the show jumping phase. Eventing is a recognised Olympic sport and New Zealand riders are considered by many to be the best in the world. The Waikato has been great producer of international event riders such as Mark Todd, Vaughan Jefferies, Andrew Nicholson, and is the home of up and coming riders such as Donna Smith (now based in USA) and John Twomey.

The Waikato Equestrian Centre is proud to be associated with Dna Wells, who represented NZ in the trans-tasman trophy and was reserve on the NZ Eventing team for the Atlanta Olympics, and is available for private lessons at the centre. Contact the office for more information.

WEC Te Rapa SPRING TRIAL 3/4 October 2009

Once again we have course designers extraordinaire Frank Phillips and Peter Reid at the helm to develop courses to challenge and thrill both riders and spectators alike.

Autumn courses designed by these two fellows proved to be both challenging, and interesting to ride, at all levels.  From those training riders who left their stomach contents behind at the base of the new drop fence at number 5 (those that closed their eyes and opted for the direct route that is), to the varied methods of overcoming the new bounce fences for pre novice and novice riders; there was something to challenge and inspire all riders.

But for those slightly more faint of heart, there were encouraging black flag options to enable all riders to complete the course.

All in all, an excellent course which all riders thoroughly enjoyed riding, and which gave a real sense of achievement upon completion.

And just what do these two intrepid designers have up their sleeves for the Spring trial ?  Well, that is of course, anyone's guess, and a closely guarded secret.  One thing you can be sure of however, is a thoroughly enjoyable cross country ride, with a few new surprises thrown in along the way.

We hope to see you all there, either riding, or spectating.  And helpers are always welcomed.
