NOTICE BOARD

New Grazing System

In the past WEC has operated a "grazing list" system whereby applicants for grazing were contacted when they came to the top of the list.  As not every grazing space suited the horse at the top of the list, e.g. a pony space would be too small for a large hack, this system frequently caused confusion.  Frustration over the long waiting periods has also been an issue over the years.

Grazing Spaces will now be advertised only as they become available, so watch this space!  Application forms will be posted with the ad and applicants will receive an answer as to whether their application has been sucessful after the application period has ended.

WHO DO I CONTACT?

WEC HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS:
Health and Safety is everybody's responsibility.  Please report all potential hazards (to people or horses) accidents, incidents and horse health concerns to the Riding School Office at ridingschool@horses.net.nz or call Kayleen at the Riding School on ph 849 6756.

For NON URGENT matters, please be considerate of Kayleen's busy schedule.  If possible please make an appointment to see her or send her an email.

If it is an EMERGENCY outside Riding School work hours please call 0274 995 055 or 027 4743 349

Can you Lend the Club a hand?

Would you like to get behind your club and volunteer a little time?  We require volunteers for general maintenance and improvements to the WEC gounds, to help at events and at the Riding School and to help with administration.
And if you are a farmer or a retired farmer we would love to talk to you!  There is always plenty to do in the Farm Park and we are particularly looking for someone to pass on their lifetime of knowledge and skills to a fantastic, hard working school leaver that we have working here.   Please email admin@horses.net.nz or call 07 8496756.

Get into the Club Spirit! Spare time? Volunteer your time to help at WEC events or email admin@horses.net.nz or ridingschoo@horses.net.nz to see if there are any odd jobs to do. The little that we do today will benefit generations to come.

Admin Office Moved

To give our members and grazers a single point of contact, the Admin Office has now been moved to the Riding School. The Office in the Car Park area is now for staff and committee use only.  Kayleen and the Riding School staff are happy to assist members and grazers.  Eftpos is now available at the Riding School.

Waikato Equestrian Centre Lease

In 2007 the Hamilton City Council renewed the Waikato Equestrian Centre's Lease agreement.  The terms are for another 10 years allowing the Waikato Combined Equestrian Group to confidently plan for the future.  A big thank you to the Council for their generosity to the Waikato Equestrian Community and we look forward to building new and improved facilites for our riders.

CIVIC AWARD GIVEN TO WEC FOUNDER

Noeline Jeffries has been recognised by the Hamilton City Council for her work in the area of Sport in Hamilton City.  His Worship, the Mayor Bob Simcock, bestowed the award and below is the Citation read by councillor Pippa Mahood.

Noeline Jeffries

Noeline was the instigator of  the founding of the Waikato Combined Equestrian Group (WCEG) in 1984.  Noeline worked tirelessly for two years, and with many hours of work and meetings, the group became a fully incorporated Society in 1986.

Noeline held the position of Secretary for six years, from 1985-1991.  She held the postion of Chief Executive from 1998 to 2003.  She retired from the committee in 2007 but Noeline has remained a member of this group, and is often called upon for her knowledge.

She is a Dressage Judge for the New Zealand Equestrian Federation and the Dressage Coordinator for the Equestrian Section of the Masters Games held in Hamilton every two years.

During Noeline's tenure with the Waikato Equestrian Centre, the group progressed from a dream into a reality.  The Waikato Combined Equestrian Group Inc. is now a progressive society, and has matured and grown in membership and stature as an organization.

The Centre is an asset to Hamilton City, focused on developing horse and rider to the highest level.  WEC offer an excellent range of facilities and the support and training to assist riders in reaching their goals.  The Centre has it's own resident instructors and is also linked with top national and International trainers in various disciplines.

Her dedication and commitment, over many years, has offered Hamilton and its residents a first class organisation, she truly deserves the recognition of a Civic Award Today.

Responsive Trade Education

HAVE YOU NOTICED... THINGS ARE LOOKING SMARTER!

Thanks to a great team of students from Responsive Trade Education, the Waikato Equestrian Centre has had a major facelift.  They have worked hard at painting, cobbling, building, and renovating the WEC and if you are wondering who did this and who to thank, here is a little information...

WHO IS RESPONSIVE TRADE EDUCATION?

Responsive Trade Education is a private training centre.  We have been NZQA approved and accredited since 2004 and contract to the Tertiary Education Commission.  We have been delivering Pre-Trade Building and Construction National Certificate programes for approximately 3 years at our training centre at the Te Rapa Racecourse on Ken Browne Drive in Hamilton.  In addition to trades training we offer literacy and numeracy enhancement which will assist our learners to continue on to further training in the industry of their choice.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is the continuing development of an environment which supports integrated learning and reinforcement of life, employment and industry skills.
The Courses offered here will help you to move toward your goal of a job, a job with an Apprenticeship or further education.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Responsive Trade Education will deliver top quality
pre-employment and trade training which focuses on the Building Construction and Maintenance industries.

OUR COMMITTMENT

EVERY DAY WE WILL CARE about ourselves, our people and  our community.
LEARN the best ways to lead satisfying lives.
GROW as individuals and positively influence our world.

Our Trainees are people 16 years and older who have no or low qualifications,
may be long-term unemployed or require re-training to change industries.  The training is free to all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.  Both RTE and the learners focus on the achievement of a National Certificate in Elementary Construction Skills and/or permanent employment, preferably in the building construction and maintenance industry.  Apprenticeships are strongly encouraged and supported.  On average, over 80% of the learners who have enrolled with RTE have gone from our programs into employment.

Responsive Trade Education strongly believes that the way to learn to do is to do!  We seek out projects for our learners which will provide them with hands on learning opportunities which at the same time contribute to non-profit community groups.  Our trainees work on a volunteer basis.  Their reward for their work is the opportunity to learn new skills in a "real" environment.

In 2007 we chose to do building and maintenance work at the Waikato Equestrian Centre, primarily because of we felt it would be wonderful to contribute to the Riding for the Disabled group in some small way.

2007 Projects included:

  • Repairs and painting of the Riding School Office/Kitchen block
  • Repairs to and re-railing of viewing deck at the Riding School
  • 3 X concrete pads
  • Cobbles laid under the tie-up shelter near the Hall arena
  • Supply of 3 Barbeque tables for material cost only
  • New judges box for the Western Riding Arena

Both staff and learners from RTE have not only gained valuable skills working at the Waikato Equestrian Centre, but have had a great time and met a lot of wonderful members of the community!  We are grateful to both the staff and the visitors of the Centre for making us feel welcome and valued.
