Riding for the Disabled News
As of the 1st March 2009 the Waikato Combined Equestrian Group Inc. RDA has changed it's name to become the Hamilton Group RDA. This will better differentiate the group from other RDA's based in the Waikato. The group was started by the Waikato Equestrian Centre as a way of giving back to the community. However, in response to the rapid growth of the group, a decision has been made to let the RDA stand alone.
The Waikato Equestrian Centre is very proud to continue as the venue for the Hamilton Group RDA and looks forward to working closely with them in the years to come. The Hamilton Group RDA will be added to the growing list of clubs affiliated to the Waikato Combined Equestrian Group Inc.
The purpose of RDA is to provide individually tailored therapeutic riding programs that help children with special needs to develop their:
-communication and concentration
-social skills
-self-esteem, confidence, achievement
& independence.
At present we cater for special needs children from Hamilton North, Waipa and Crawshaw Schools as well as an adult group. The Hamilton Group RDA now has a massive 114 riders on their role.
Join the team!! It would be impossible for this service to be provided without our extremely dedicated group of volunteers. Our volunteers are from all ages and come from many sectors of the community. They are a unique and valuable group of people who are very much appreciated. You do not necessarily need experience with horses.
Hamilton Group RDA is a registered charity and if you would like to join us in providing this amazing service to the community please contact our RDA coordinator,
Dna Wells.

Ever Considered Hunting--
Hunting as a sport, reportedly was introduced by Alfred The Great (871) and has evolved over the centuries to become the great sport as we know it today with the fellowship, camaraderie, fun, pleasure and the thrill of the chase.
The Waikato Combined Equestrian Group Inc. is excited to welcome the
Waikato Hunt INC. on board as an Affiliated Club. This is a fabulous sport that quickly becomes addictive. There is always plenty of support and encouragement for the first timer and riding the gates at your first hunt is a good way to see if hunting is for you. In New Zealand hunting nearly always involves jumping wire fences (generally sparred or lowered) but also hedges and open drains, and the beautiful Waikato countryside offers a great variety of terrain.

One Brave Little Girl...
In 1982, there were 900 horses living within the confines of the Hamilton City boundaries, many living in substandard conditions, and with the loss of the Claudelands Facility, there was a desperate need for facilities and space to support the Equestrian Sport. The WCEG (Waikato Combined Equestrian Group Inc.) was formed after one little girl was brave enough to write a letter to the Hamilton City Mayor. Click here to find out more....
